Just a FYI for all those in the northeast and mid-east USA that are interested in a 6-hr mini-rogaine with 50 checkpoints, uses electronic controls, and serves on-the-premises cooked food at the end:

there are only 14 spots left

Current registration: 136
Max capacity: 150

This year, we were stunned by the large posse of Michiganers who are driving in their Made-in-Detroit motor vehicles all the way to Pittsburgh, as well as a bunch of Ohioans. We are pleased to see the return of past winners, such as Hail to the Chimp, Brian Mayer, Olga Huber.

For photos and images and some past maps, dig into the photo albums and look for those labeled "Raccoongaine".

Weird question: can our dog (on leash) come along on the course?

sherpes:
yes, pets are allowed in Pennsylvania state parks, and they are not required to be on leash, as hunting dogs are used by hunters in this park. I'll ask the park ranger just to confirm, and if I find out a different story, I'll post here.

Just asked a friend of mine, and he said that in PA state parks, pets must be "in control" aka leash. There is an exception made for dogs used for the purpose of hunting. The only places where dogs are not allowed are beach areas, or inside buildings.

Will Barney help you hunt for controls? If so...

the official statement from the park: "Dogs are allowed but must remain on a maximum 6 foot leash. The only exceptions to the leash rule are for Search and Rescue, Hunting and Guide Canine’s. "

I think Barney is a Life Guide Canine - like a life coach, but quadrupedal.

I thought this was raccoon-hunting competition, right? Does one need a proof of rabies vaccination?
