Awesome orienteering last weekend Jan Erik!
Just thought I'd follow up about that book I mentioned. It's Daniel's Running Formula (I have the 4th edition) it's published by Human Kinetics and should be available from most major book stores or online. The first part of the book is really what will be most helpul to you as it goes through all the science of running specific training. The second half of the book has training plans for different race distance which won't apply to you because a) there are so many extra factors at play in orienteering and b) you have coaches to help you set up a more specific training plan.
Cheers,
Jeff
Thanks Jeff, you too! It was a lot of fun :P
I've been think about it, I'll see if I can get it at out library or maybe a bookstore, I'm excited to read it. Agreed, I think that my training plan right now is good, but I will see if I can't tweak a few things and make them better after reading this!
Thanks again Jeff!
Yeah it was fun!
Let me know how it goes.
good advice.....or there is Dr Tarno's formula:
train every day, be consistent, drink a beer at dinner, have fun, race hard.
I was in the best shape of my life and won a few NAOC titles with that advice .. though i replaced beer with Coke.
great to see how well you, Emma and Christian did in VanCity. good speed, good results. well done.
are you attending the flying Pig? if so have your father email me where you are staying
Hammer, nobody said the two were incompatible ;)
I'll take that advice to heart as I continue to make my workouts, there is definitely something to be said about consistent training.
Thanks, it was so much fun starting off the orienteering season with an intense training camp! They are some great teammates to hang around :)
Yeah we are, the entire family is going to go down on an extended Spring Break road trip, and we'll be bringing a Finnish runner, so Emma will have some good competition ;P That would be awesome if we could stay at the same hotel, I'll have my dad email you.

Race results...
"I think I'll be bringing my little brother next year."
Which one? :-)
Magnus definitely, Henrik may be too young, unless the entire family goes :)
Your Dad just registered for the Pig...
It seems that everybody is both an Intercollegiate <>and<> Interscholastic competitor... :-)
Also, are all of you permanent residents ("green card" holders) now? I'll have to ask him about that...
Yep, we've have a green card for 3 years now :)
People who get green cards generally do so with the intention of eventually becoming citizens, but I thought your family's plan was to move back to Canada. How long have you been living in the US?
I think we had a visa for 8 years and we were still going to be living here so we needed a green card. We will be moving back at the end of this school year to around the hamilton area :)
:-)
You would have really enjoyed this morning's long run. It was muddy, icy, hilly and rocky. I ran with Danish Dynamite and AdventureGirl! Just you and nwhitty missing from our HPP juniors. you are really going to enjoy training with the ARX group.
I assume you won't return to being a Leafs fan.
In a few days you should be getting our weather then, it's absolutely perfect spring weather! I hope it keeps up for my orienteering race tomorrow :D
Yeah it'll be awesome training with you guys :) I may have to stick with the winning team ;P
