How does it tell you you need to update? I've never updated my 310X in two years and it works just fine.

I think it does it automatically sometimes when you download, but this seems like a glitch. Call Garmin. They are really good on the phone about diagnosing and fixing problems.

This was additional tonight.

Started keeping track of which update Garmin is referring to. I agree that it must be a glitch and need to call. I've seen these screens too many times.

I use the ant stick, open Garmin Express, finally get a sync, go to Garmin Express & download the gpx to a file. It works smoothly enough this way except for this problem. This is the only avenue I could find that worked. There was a thread on this maybe 4 months ago suggesting/showing other ways I believe.

I seem to have skipped some of your steps. I don't use Garmin Express to start with and am not linked to Garmin Connect. Tried once but they had forgotten my password or name. Found I didn't need them.

With my 310XT and ANT stick installed on my iMac, I turn on the 310 and let the computer think about things for a while. After a while the run screens will reset to zeros. Can turn the 310 off or charge at this point. The go to AP, add training, click Garmin Transfer. A little screen comes on with download progress. After a bit, the new runs are highlighted in the list of previous runs. Confirm the desired run (unless a batch entry when several may be highlighted) and the run will next appear in the New Training screen. Continue with the editing.

Sounds complicated. I just put my 310 watch next to the computer with the ant stick and it starts "data transfer" by itself. The I go to "add training" in Attackpoint and click on "upload files", pick the file I want and it's on my screen.

Oh, and never update your software if it's already working okay. Updates are guaranteed to screw things up.

Interesting - I tried all of the above & nothing worked. I did learn that I don't need the power cable (the way the 305 linked the data). I did see the "transferring data" on the watch screen but where on the computer did it go? Not in my list of gpx files downloaded fm the GC site. I tried with the watch off first, then on. Went to AP and opened training, waited before, after etc nothing. My system (Mac, updated enough I believe) or settings or whatever only uploads files thru GC for me the way things are right now. Maybe we can shed some light on this puzzle when we are at an A meet with wifi where we can view comparative experiences. I looked at settings in GC but did not see anything promising. I'll continue to fiddle vs just doing it this circuitous way. I do like some of what I see on Garmin Connect.

Seemed that the software update request "blackmailed" me into updating as it would eventually not sync the watch & so I could not get the day's data w/o the update.
