Mine's been doing the same thing on the 29er ever since the Margaret River events back in 2014. Stupid thing drops to SCR going over bumpy ground and now also has a habit of dropping off completely on the outer side of BCR for no good reason. Easy to get back on when that happens - just switch to SCR - but most frustrating not knowing what's wrong with it (yes I have adjusted the screws).
I bought a new one before xmas cheap from chain reaction. Old one was sticking but a bit of love loosened it up. This new problem means the new one is going on this afternoon as we have a Newcastle mtbo race tomorrow. Need to beat Malcolm to claim second overall. Can't be worrying about chain. First already wrapped up by Steveo.
I've got all the parts here to replace on the XTC - chain, cassette and both tyres. I'm just trying to decide whether the cause of the problem is that the last time I replaced the chain, I measured what it was meant to be and it came out at 108 links whereas the previous one was 110 links so do I risk it and go back to 110? Might be worth a test I suppose still seven weeks out from the trials. At least I can fix it if it doesn't work.
Replaced and followed all the shimano instructions to adjust. Working well on the street and jumping off gutters and through potholes. Hopefully still good in the bush tomorrow.
I replaced chainrings, cassette, jockey wheels and chain a few weeks ago and there was a notable improvement in how pedalling felt, gear changing and noise reduction. Seems about 5000k wears these things out. I seem to need to replace chain about every 3 months.
Gutters and potholes - that would be ????? St?.You can go down to the northern end of your street (near Donald St) for some "off road" experiences for the next week.
