I was chatting with Ian Murray and Erik Carleton about this, the mix of leaders with wax versus skate skis. The Norwegian (former Nat Jr Team member) said it was different from a European race as you'd have everyone doing one or the other, but there was some tactics in the pack. The guys with grip wax really needed to attack on hills and for the most part did not (Scott Hill went solo from Fortune Lake on). The skate guys guessed that they would catch Hill on the parkways as his skis were slow, but couldn't reel him in.
