It's just the three of us + Caroline, who arrives today. Family vacation with a side of orienteering. :-)
Have a great time! But maybe in future years, you'll avoid the hassle, stay in Norway, and vacation on bikes
from your front door!
Enjoy it! I am envious, even if we had a lovely family vacation in Davos, spending some time in the sun and orienteering would have been great. Next year?
Next year! We'll have to work it around WMOC in New Zealand, though. You guys are going, too, right?!
Look forward to seeing (all of) you there. I guess you probably know already that the Oceania Championships are happening the weekend before WMOC, also in the Auckland area - these are run along pretty similar lines to the North Americans (open entry, full range of age groups), except that there's also a forest relay (age groups, teams of 3) open to all comers.
I'm sure there will be something worthwhile happening in Australia before/after, too (just not quite sure exactly what it will be).
I will have to look into that and talk with Marc. :-)
@blairtrewin - Very cool. We have family in New Zealand, so good to know we might find an opportunity to share orienteering with them. And thanks for the heads up on potential for events in Australia.
Neat to hear so many people are planning to go to WMOC!
At this stage it is "planning" in the sense that Melissa and I really want to go and it is our big trip idea for next year BUT we have no idea if we will be able to pull it off. NZ is really far from Norway, sort of necessitating that it be a longer trip, and we don't know what the jobs/vacations/money status will be this time next year. Here's hoping!
Once you're on a long-haul flight there really isn't that much difference between 9 hours and 24 :-) (says he, who has definitely never attempted to travel with a toddler).
I am consistently impressed by how often you cover such large distances, appear to function at your destination, and then do it all over again just a few days later.
