I've been told by someone who should know (during a talk from a Swedish former world champion) that the secret when leaving the start is to match three features on the map to the ground before you look at your compass. I may be a bit hit and miss at actually following this advice but it seemed like a good rule to stop you from charging off without enough information from the map.

I just ran to the end of the rough clearing and thought I kept going from there but the GPS trace says I did that then turned to the SW when I needed to go directly west, which means I probably went and contoured around the spur unintentionally (and didn't correct). From the positioning of where I found #6 on the trace, it looks like I was searching for #1 SE of #6 when it was in fact NE, which makes sense when I found myself at the eastern most bend of the creek to the SW of #6 when I overshot #2.

Thanks for putting these on anyway. It wouldn't do to just go to Easter with no bush preparation. Which of the courses at Yetar did you say still had the tapes out (i.e. A, B & C)?

C has the tapes out. I think the training this weekend they'll be offering B a second time as only the fast ones like Henry, Simon, Craig and Sarah did it last time. They are possibly putting out tapes which they could leave out for you if you wanted. Let Jan F know if you'd like them to leave them out.
