Mr Wonderful:
west of Whitmore Lake Road along the river is tolerant of cyclists. Nice climbs up to the Barton Hills club.

we rode that on our road bikes once. Turns to dirt roads at some point, so it wasn't the best for that, but definitely hilly.

We use Barton Hills for "hill" training. And yes, they are quite tolerant of cyclist. You may already know this, but if you want to keep on paved roads there, you turn left at the first named street after the golf course, then left again at bottom of hill, then right, that will put you down at the river where you can then bike back to Whitmore Lake road. Or you can take a left at Underdown Rd (another big incline) and do another loop of Barton Hills (or bail onto Whitmore Lake rd at the top of the incline). Can't find a better "hills" workout in Ann Arbor, unless you do the Dhu Varren "bowl" multiple times in a row :) Have fun on those new bikes!

We've only been back in there once and felt a little out of it's nice to know they are ok with cyclists. In that case we'll definitely use Barton Hills for hill workouts in the future!
