Every considered for Anna to take the Downeaster from Boston to Portland...

Considered it, but no easy/quick way to Hartford or Springfield from Boston. 8.5-15 hours via public transport. Have to take T from North Station to somewhere else to catch other transportation, often late at night. Getting to/from train station takes time and I'd have to go fetch in Htfd or Spfld anyhow.

It's 3 hours each way from here, $25 covers gas, tolls & snacks and I don't really mind the drive. I often find I get quite a bit of productive thinking done on the solo leg...

I was thinking you dropping her off at North Station. But the Downeaster schedule is so minimal. Yes the transfer in Boston sucks! Never understood why they did not train-connect N and S stations as part of the Big Dig.
Oh, and the Downeaster, I think, offers some college discount.

By the time I fight traffic and get in to North Station, I can be at the NH/ME line anyway, only 50 minutes further from there..
