Discussion: Looking for 24-hr rogaine partner

Please think about who might be a good match for me for the Aug 27 - 28 High Sierra Rogaine. RJ is not available for this one.

I'd like for this to be my target race for the year, and I anticipate getting into 100k running shape for it. (Not that that's necessarily the distance I expect to travel, but I'll be fit enough to. I will do a rugged 50-miler about 5 weeks before the event.)

It would be great if the person is around my navigation and fitness level - not too much better/faster than me, and not much worse/slower than me. It's pretty hard to quantify those things since courses vary so much. Hm.

I would like to be competitive, though I also would like to have a really, really good time. I do want to see how far I can go, but I'm also not against mid-event magic naps. (For this one, I might lean towards not napping, but I'm not opposed to it if brain and body really need it. I've learned the power of the self-defined "magic nap.")

Must have a good attitude.

To give someone an idea of my endurance and backcountry experience, here's my rough resume: been orienteering for about 4 years, 1x24hour navigation race, 2x100mile runs, 2xlong trail thru-hikes (AT, PCT), many unsupported self-designed multi-day backcountry running / fastpacking adventures, about 50 marathon-distance and longer official running events.

Go to, friends, go to

Well I'd like to help but your resume is more impressive than mine and basically everyone I know...

Pink Socks:
Perhaps post something to the AP event thread and ask? I've seen people looking for 24-hour teammates before on AP, so that could work out well for you?

Hey, did I tell you about how much poison oak I saw at Champs? I'm really good at identifying it now!

I wonder if Emily Ross likes to Rogaine... or if Alison Schoenhardt would be game. (Both Canadian)

Or just ring up Shara Feld! Though I don't think med students have much (any) vacation time. Hmm.

OH I KNOW! Rick Breseman!!

Or, f#ck it, Eric Bone and a we-go team link.

Thanks, team.

RJ, I will follow up with you. Maybe I could do something like this with the likes of the Bonesaw if he had to run backwards, or could only look at the map through the back side of the paper, holding it up to the sky or shining a flashlight through it. Ha!

Pink_Socks, yes, I may eventually post on AP, but I kinda hope to connect with someone that someone knows rather than a total unknown.

I think I'm good!
I found someone that lives in the Bay Area, through a friend I met at Big Muddy a couple years ago.
I don't know him, but he has cred and seems cool.
Now if registration would just open.
