Which control didn't have the pin punch?
135, number 21 on the M20E course.
I wondered, having read your description and looked at your splits. That was in one of the sectors where we were able to check the kit as it came back in (about half of the kit - some of it was brought in by helpers who had broken the kit down before it arrived back). In that sector, there were no punches missing - and they had been checked twice. I think what might have happened is that punches came from two sources. Aire punches were attached to the cane with a short cable tie loop, whilst those borrowed from LOC had a longer cord which dangled a fair way down. I suspect that you had probably used Aire punches to that point (there were more of them), and that the LOC punch being longer was easier to miss.
Either way, I'm glad you weren't dsqed - that to my mind would have been very unfair, especially as it wasn't one you were going to save much, if any, time on.
It's worth noting for the future that punches should ideally all be the same, but it would have taken a lot of work to make them consistent, and time is not what we had on the timescales of receiving borrowed kit and prepping it for the race. Sounds like you need a new SI card though! Hope selections go OK.
Ok, thanks for the explanation. I suppose in the moment it was quite possible I'd panicked and just missed it, my head was all over the place after the SI issues earlier on. I'm very glad it was sorted out alright as I was pretty frustrated! I'm sure you can pass my thanks on to whoever it was that saw sense and thankfully reinstated me, just a shame it wasn't for a better result! Going to give my card another chance in the Lakes this w/e and should it have similar issues I think that qualifies as an excuse to upgrade to an SI air card! :)
I'd use the excuse! Eying one up myself, but promised myself to make it worthwhile by getting some fitness back first.
Are you offering to pay awk? ;-)
The old one is out of warranty and hence no discount on the £50+
