I fear I must take some responsibility. I wasn't Planner or Controller (Cat's dad) but did test run the longest course back in November.
It took me 40 mins. The leading time is meant to be 32 mins (that's what the JK Rules say whether you agree or not: maybe something for Competitions Group to look at?).
I believe (probably wrongly now) that I am about 1.5mpk slower than GG etc. I told the Planner that his course was about the right length. I probably need to increase my adjustment factor to 2mpk slower than the Elites :-(
I'm still mightily impressed with 5mpk around Storthes Hall. Well run!
I haven't heard any complaints from the old men running the same course...
Cheers Chas. It is under discussion at E&CC level to bring it into line with international relays (which say 30-40 mins I believe)
I always liked the short sharp JK relays - perfect after three days of hard racing.
British could be longer though for variety: 3x45 or even 45-45-50+, if area supports it.
The old men (I speak for the balding ones) were more than happy with the distance! ;-)
