I have been hearing frog "clapping" for two weeks now. I never noticed this so early before. (They applaud when I get near them). Have not heard yet the "whistling" peeper sound that is usual for mid-April. Same species?
Don't know about the clapping but I'd call the singing I heard yesterday characteristic for peeper "music", guess more c/w "whistling". Swamp crickets? Heard them today in Hopkinton, too. Saw a good-sized patch of ice on a shaded pond today as well.
Gee, we had them a good month ago.
Spring's earlier in the Boston area and seems even earlier where you are. No daffodils here yet. Beth & I drove to Elk Neck SP (think Mar 27th, 1998) for the first A meet. Getting out of the car after 10 hrs driving to be greeted by peepers was most memorable after a cold NH winter. Remember that weekend? Around 80F on Sat.
I do. We left snow and some barrels full of sap that we hadn't boiled yet. Drove into spring and then some. Should have dumped the sap barrels out before we left. They were pretty rank by the time we got back. That was about the end of my sap boiling career.
