Actually the machine reads in miles and the reading was 4.52 miles so I think that computes to correct km?? It's done on a treadmill and I hold on to bar because for the life of me I cannot get my arms to seem to do the right thing "indoors". So I'm guessing that bar gives me a lift. I negative split it too - yiha! 1.97 in first 18 mins and 2.55 in second 18 mins. Reason for 18 mins? Machine will only let me do 15 mins + 3 mins warm down at a time, and it sort of equated to a Parkrun sort of turn round time etc. So I think it's OK. Will see next week.
The arm thing reminds me of the folk that put the treadmill on a big incline then hold on as they lean back - always looks hilarious to me!
On incline: Coaching consensus seems to be the you need to set a 1%-1.5% incline on a treadmill to make up for extra effort that would be required for forward propulsion when outdoors (not just staying on top of a moving belt).
