Is it just really poorly designed? Or was it really well-designed, just as a torture chamber and not a lab?
Really poorly designed and cheaply made. Our main air vent has become disconnected and they need to cut through concrete to re-connect it (don't ask the question about how the hell it happened, not worth it). They haven't yet scheduled the contractor. I actually would stay home except I have a french summer student who just arrived, and I feel bad leaving her alone. But then, her experiments aren't really working, so it there any point? And it's not her fault, she's excellent. I suppose she's learning the techniques. I was actually really happy that we had a cold April till now, but from here on in it's going to be bad.
They make space heaters. Is there such a thing as a space cooler? like a portable AC unit? Because Yale needs to buy some of those.
There exist some kind of portable AC units but there needs to be some way to vent/drain out water removed from the air. Not museum quality but perhaps good enough for your lab.
Yeah, we have no way to vent it - the windows are solid panes of glass. We have thought about doing something about that :)
I currently have a floor fan, which is doing nothing at all.
My old office server room had an air conditioning unit that just drained into a reservoir at the bottom of the unit. Then we hooked up a pump to take the water away.
Could you put something like that in place, draining into a sink?
Really poorly designed and cheaply made...
Heard a while ago that the old peoples home where my uncle lives must have fallen under the category above. The first - very hot - summer they realized that they had actully forgotten (?) to put in any kind of ventilation in the building!!
