Hahahaha! I had to laugh so much when I read that :D Have fun in Macolin!
That is such a great program, I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences. The Swiss military team does very well at CISM (big surprise, I know), along with many other European nations with similar policies and resources. The European coaches have really reached out to the US team to help us get back into CISM after a long hiatus. It's humbling to race with them, but a wonderful atmosphere for building friendships. Will you get to go to any of the Swiss military team's competitions? Do they compete outside of CISM?
On the US side, we have very few elites, but we're working to grow the program. I have a few promising runners I've been trying to get to a "real" O meet outside of CISM so perhaps we could suck them further into the sport, but it's tough trying to work the travel around other duties, and orienteering is often not their primary sport. We'll be lucky if we get funding (and "official place of duty" status) to get the team to HVO nat'l meet in Sep, train at West Point for a few days, and then up to NAOC. Sigh - I guess you do what you can and hope for the best!
