I was thinking that some of those math team kids could work at the summer O-camps...
I don't know that I would have enough time to help, but I'll ask anyway: where exactly in central/western MA?
The teacher / team coach lives in Westborough; the kids come from multiple schools. I know she mentioned Marlborough, possibly in the context of being the closest to Boston...
She said she works with kids throughout middle and western Mass.
Actually, here are her words exactly:
I coach the Western Mass ARML math team, which has about 75 high school students from about 20 different schools in Central and Western Mass each year. They are great kids, many of them run track, and would quickly learn and be able to teach basics if you are looking for high school, or even possibly college student help.
I don't think I can include them in my summer program because I don't have staff to manage them. The summer program is for teens like them, from high schools. One activity will be teaching younger kids in camps. I need older staff members who are familiar with orienteering or at least outdoor phys ed, and are good at working with teenagers, to run the program.
The Mayor's Program will pay the participants - but they have to be Cambridge residents to be paid. I do want to keep it local for another reason: to try and build up critical mass in this city, so orienteering explodes here.
