I will have to check HAFTA as I saw a few turkeys on my run today.
Spring turkey season is the same everywhere that turkey hunting is allowed (including Halton): April 25 to May 31, from 1/2 hour before sunrise to 7:00 p.m. Wear your bright colours!
Turkey season is the last week of April until May 31 in Ontario. Not all areas allow Sunday hunting.
Hunter orange is the colour to go with.
Avoid red, blue and white.
I'm surprised to see *more* areas allowing Sunday gun hunting this year. I would have thought things would move the other way to give the vast majority of Ontario residents the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with greater safety on just one day each week. (I'm not anti-hunting but there have been some unfortunate incidents with hunters in our area so I don't trust them with my life. One local hiker was killed.)
P.S. DD11, we're both in no-guns-on-Sunday areas still. Yay!
Why avoid blue? I'm asking because I have a bright blue jacket that doesn't make me look like a turkey. Also nauseating fluorescent yellow bike vest and jacket. Those OK? The dogs have orange vests.
Turkeys have bright blue and red colouring on their heads.
You're close enough to the city that 'please-don't-shoot-me orange' is actually "Hey, I'm over here, fire a few shots then come have a look-orange"
Yikes! Sunday it is. Although the local hunters who break other laws may not be concerned about that one either.
Btw some people may not know that the Bruce Trail passes through many areas where hunting is legal (although not always permitted by the landowner). Do your research - although there is only so much you can find out.
Spring Bear hunt starts up again on sunday 'up north'
Hope you have blaze orange lab coats for your researchers!
Yup. I require orange hi vis all year round.
Nauseating fluorescent yellow should be good. Singing at the top of your lungs as you go cruising through the woods probably doesn't hurt either :)
