I'm often tender there, too. I have a forefoot strike pattern and tend to run in fairly minimalist shoes on roads, low drop shoes when orienteering. I've noticed most of my lower leg pains are related to lateral stabilization of my feet, and worst when I have some imbalances in my core/glutes/hips. Apparently such imbalances often manifest first in lower leg pain - might be worth considering if nothing else obvious jumps out at you.
Well I ran with 7 month old orienteering shoes during the competition. So I don't think it's quite related to it.... But it could be since I haven't used them for racing since November... I hope it is just from slanted running and extra pressure/stress being applied to that one area.
