We all await with interest.
Thanks for giving Mikey the nod but he (and me) both think he will miss out. Apart from the two sprint races he has underperformed. Also being outside the Talent Squad will probably count against him. I hope you're right and we're wrong though. Not long to wait. ...
Hmm. I don't know who is or isn't in the talent squad, but if it's between someone who has been in and someone who hasn't, I'd favour the one that hasn't, as if they are good without the advantages of the talent squad, they can only be better with.
If you pick any 18s, it would be a bit harsh to leave out Matt Fellbaum after he won JK and BOC.
Alex showed again yesterday that if there's a relay involved, he's your man.
Hmm. I think you need to look at how the 18s perform against the 20s though. It depends to what extent they disregard the JK long, which Harrison won beating all the 20s too, and Harrison was 3rd at Mulgrave woods, only beaten by 2 x 20s.
That's the problem with having selection rather than qualification: you can make the case for lots of different people, without noticeably strengthening or weakening the team. Then whoever misses out often feels they were unfairly dealt with which is the shittiest thing ever
Sasha, Dane, Daniel, Harrison and 2 of Mikey, Tim, Will for the boys
Julie, Sarah, Alice, Jenny, Fiona and Beth (assuming they don't take Meg who I agree should have one of jwoc/wuoc to focus on not both).
For Pippa and Matt, while they performed well, I think they will go to EYOC. At EYOC they can get good results instead of coming middle of the field at jwoc which they have more chances to go to in the future anyway.
Neither me nor Pippa are in the talent squad, for different reasons. I'm not saying that therefore we should go, but I think it's worth noting.
I'm just really pleased to see there's more people of a high standard than places - that's really promising for the sport. Whether you are in or just miss out - keep working hard - your best is not likely to come until you're much older so don't sit back now! ;-)
Well said Lard.
However it looks like I was right. All the selected boys are in the Talent Squad (or so I hear).
Just run tiomila, jukola, oringen and everything else instead!
If have thought if Mikey wasn't going then Matt would be next. I certainly wouldn't choose to be in the talent squad. Time spent listening to physiology talks is time you can't get back. Aidan Smith seemed to perform ok without being in it.
And not getting to JWOC doesn't seem to have hampered Cat or Jo Shep.
@noRa can get good results instead of coming middle of the field
Yup. Compare Kim finally becoming British Champion at the weekend with a bunch of people in the middle of a field in Poland.
Dane Blomquist (Sprint, Middle, Relay A) (SYO)
Sasha Chepelin (Long, Middle, Relay A) (EUOC)
Harrison McCartney (Long, Middle, Relay B) (OD)
William Rigg (Sprint, Long, Relay B) (EUOC)
Daniel Stansfield (Long, Middle, Relay A) (FVO)
Joe Woodley (Long, Middle, Relay B) (AIRE)
Fiona Bunn (Long, Middle, Relay B) (TVOC)
Megan Carter-Davies (Sprint, Long, Relay A) (MWOC)
Julie Emmerson (Sprint, Middle, Relay A) (OD)
Sarah Jones (Sprint, Middle, Relay A) (EUOC)
Jennifer Ricketts (Long, Middle, Relay B) (EUOC)
Alice Rigby (Long, Middle, Relay B) (CLOK)
So, as predicted, no place in the team for anyone outside the Talent Squad.
I would be deeply disappointed in BOF if being prepared to fork out £XXXto be a member of the talent squad aids JWOC selection in anyway. I'm not sure id be surprised though. It would be nice if all selectors were totally independant of the squad, to minimise bias, perceived or otherwise.
Although the team was not what I would have chosen, I wish all the best to those picked.
