'Hand release push ups'? Sounds nasty.
Btw I can only do max 9 pushups - you're my super hero!!
Hand release push ups are:
normal stance push up...go down all way so..body on floor. Let hands come off floor..then put hands back on floor push up again. But you aren't allowed to look like a caterpillar.
The push up exercise has been a "triumph" for me. As a girl 5-16 or so I was heavily involved in athletics (family member an Olympian) and the discipline of "choice" was javelin, so upper body strength needed. As part of my training I was doing push ups - up to 100 in blocks of 10 on chairs ie 1 for each hand and 1 for feet. So was/am pretty strong in that "way".
Not doing them for a zillion years I knew I'd have to start again. 2 frozen shoulders in early 2004-5 made it a real problem whether I'd ever get any strength back. Persevered and did but the actual limiting factor from 2009 was my right foot (stress fracture of plantar plate). So I couldn't stress it by going on my toes to do push ups. I used knees for a while but that was getting me into bad habits - leaning backwards. So now I use a 'step' under my knees to support them and gives my back the right stance and now it is just a matter of building up again. My feet are still touching the ground and close to normal - just not the full pressure on my right foot.
The 94 from the other day I did in blocks of 20 up to 40, then 10s to 70 then really struggled and did blocks of 5. Cross Fit training as savage - but not as bad as Cross Fit itself.
not many families have an old broom that has an Olympics-certified javelin as a handle - June was always very practical after she finished her athletic career, and it was always important for son-in-law to stay on her good side (not a difficult task) - or well out of range ;-)
Haha!! That is sooo cool!!!
