Because riding up Mills Rd East once is bad enough.

I take it the shiny new bike bridge over Abernethy is now open?

Yeah it's been open for a while, that's my third trip over it. The path is on the south side of the highway from Gt Eastern Hwy to Roe Hwy (the path connecting south on Roe isn't open yet though) then swaps to the north side through to Hale Rd, where you're plonked back out on the highway again until Mills Rd. I *think* they might be putting a path along Roe north from Tonkin on the east side but I could be wrong.

Riding up Mills Rd isn't so bad at the lower intensity :-) That sprint effort I did up Turner Rd one or two weeks back was a killer though.

Would Brookton Hwy be a longer climb?

Depends where you start I guess (I get roughly 6.5km from Stoney Brook to Chevin Rd) but it's more inconsistent in terms of how steep it is. I think Albany Hwy is 8km but that's 'relatively' flat. Mills Rd is only 3.6km in comparison but a good climb.

Yeah, I've followed it almost as far as Berkshire, back before it was actually open - turned into roadbase/sand where I turned around. That section might be is finished now as well.

Nearmap says there's a bit more path up to the end of Sultana Rd, then it's back to the shoulder.

Gee what were you doing on that trip, seeing where all the new paths went?

I wonder how they'll join up the section between Tonkin Hwy and Welshpool Rd or whether we're out on the shoulder again. Looks like there's a path heading south (currently closed) but then when I was driving north on the highway on Monday, it also looked like there was a bike lane.

Yup - getting GPS traces to update Openstreetmap. I'm not a compulsive mapper, honest.

Yeah, there's that narrow bridge over the freight railway...can't see them building another bridge.
