Totally get that, especially on such a great day for a ride. I somehow manage to do all of my falling over with an audience, though. Bonus points to Ross for the ice cream, I love that!

I feel as though I did not train you rode without a patch kit or extra tube and a pump? And really, put some mats down and practice unclipping until you do it automatically, falling off a bike can get you seriously injured, even if you are not moving.

I did ride without a patch kit, because I wasn't going " too far." And it was ok last time! I did practice a few times in front of the house and up and back on the street, and I know how to unclip easily. I remembered more times than I forgot while riding. It's not a matter of being able to do it, it's a matter of remember every time. It's hard to make it automatic when I bike daily and don't have to unclip.

I´m (almost) always riding with a patch kit but have never needed it (so far).
So what happens today? The gear wire snapped right off and of course I don´t bring a spare - not that I could have fixed it anyway since I´m not very handy...
Had to do the last 5 KM on only the lowest gear since I couldn´t switch up.

Oh, and I´m too much of a chicken to even try clips and ride with just my trainers.

PS. I could have used an ice cream at that very moment too and surely would have gotten one since all this happened right at the golf club house - only I didn´t bring any money this time :(

Sam, that sounds hilarious! I think I would have got Ross to put the bike in the bus and drive me home though! I once tore three ligaments in my ankle in a similar way so you've done well!

I did want to take the van home, but Ross told me I couldn't be afraid of biking :) I've only biked once before with clips and that time I unclipped properly, so hopefully this was just an off day!

It happened to me the first time I biked MTB with clips. I stopped to look at a big sign with a map of all the biking trails and forgot to unclip. I was lying on the ground under the sign and had a really hard time unclipping my feet. Luckily no one saw me! Haha!

Can the clipping force be adjusted ?

Yes it can (at least on most pedals I think). You just unscrew a screw on the pedal a little.

Unscrew them as much as possible. Should be able to come with barely thinking about it. You won't come out when properly pedaling but will when necessary.

My first clip less pedals had something wrong with them. I fell a couple times and I complained to Nadim, because I did *not* like that, but he thought it was just user error. Finally he took a look and determined they didn't work right and we got new ones. But now I mostly ride my hybrid bike with old-style pedals.
