I guess this was an organised event of some kind? I lived for a year in Winchester in 1989 so that is fairly familiar territory (and once walked 45km of the South Downs Way in a day), although quite a few of my runs from there got swallowed by the motorway extension in the 1990s.

Yep - I was putting up the signs for a charity walking event that start from the cathedral and followed the South Downs way.

I live just 20mins up the road in Alton!
