I had trouble with #13 too. It is greener than shown approaching it, and then I veered left to almost hit the road, and then it is not that pleasant right before it, a deeper green is warranted. Did not see any turtles though, did see a deer skull next to the swamp near #13 however.
Awesome turtle! Our daughter Anna will be most impressed. She pulled a few baby snapping turtles out of Lake Popolopen at West Point 2 years ago, they're very cute when they're small. Glad you didn't try to use it as a stepping stone.
The green gave arthurd pause and I felt like the dip in the trail gave a green light.
Wouldn't be surprised if that turtle ate that deer skull and spat out the skull you saw based on the size of that thing Igor. :) I wish I would have had a camera with me and I could have posted it and Anna could see it too- yeah I've seen smaller ones but I had no idea how huge they could get until yesterday! Here here on the greenness--I do think the trail would have been faster in this circumstance...but in fall or early spring it's probably another story.
