I called my mom Saturday after James graduation ceremony...Chrissy was talking away to my niece (my brother Dirk's girl) and we were going to go to eat at Tody Keith's restaurant (first time...it was ok...) My dad never did anything special exercise wise...to be healthy...unless it was working...but until about 2000 he actually was very healthy...then it seemed a lot of stuff went wrong...gall bladder, mild heart attack...stints in twice...and prostate surgery.
He is 80. 20 years older than me. I feel like I am catching up to him. For a year he's been tired a lot. Mom told me Sat his memory is going...my niece said her husband said something about him the last time he saw him...about his memory...its hard to believe life sometimes...I feel like times like Duluth are almost as if it were someone else's life.
Jeez when we were in HS a lot of WWII vets were younger than we are now...I thought they were a 100 years old already...not literally but that they were older than they actually were...
I can't believe your dad ran behind you like that...guess that's where you got your talent.
May 17th was my great grandma Eva's 117th birthday...her husband Burl would have been 122 on March 6th. It's weird to know people that were born that long ago...I have one grandpa born in 1880's that lived until I was ten.
In 1991 we were on Kauai a month before the 50th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. This year it will be 25 years since that anniversary!
Chrissy had not seen or talked to one of my family since about 2001 or so...part of her chemical imbalance thing. She hates Dirk and she runs my parents down all the time...yet when we married she loved my family. She didn't even have to get old to fade away...she's still locked up inside the body of the stranger that I live with and gets out now and then but just when you think she might be getting better (why I do not know why i bother with that idea any more) she will have a bad episode over nothing.
Glad you loved your dad so much. Really am sorry he passed away. Teddy Roosevelt's boy said something like this when he died, "The old lion is gone now."
Thanks for the words...
Make sure you spend as much time with your old man as you can now. Sounds like my dad's trajectory.
What was your dad's full name and when and where was he born?
Read your stuff on your dad again...it was even better the second time. Hope you are doing ok and your family also.
Called home to see what doc said about dad. Dad answered. Said doc postponed appt a week. He sounded good for the short period of time we talked
