I reckon it's one of the best area in WA - but it is really challenging.
Dryandra is about as different as you can get. Still love it, but it's fast, flat and suits running in straight lines without too much thought.

I second Fletch. There's very little hunting for boulders when you know exactly where it should be... stick to rogaining eh?

I obviously spent way too long editing my comment.

I'm with Bryce on this one. I intentionally set our Bussell Brook exploration for this weekend because I don't particularly enjoy Malmalling although I hate Ngangagurring even more. I'm also considering going to Kenine Hill when the next Malmalling event is on.

Yeah remember I treat orienteering as rogaine NAV training hence I don't care coming in last and slow. Open terrain is much nicer. Best area is still lovers lane in my mind

I've never actually run at Lovers Lane. The map looked good though (and I walked through a bit of it looking for some lost kids)

Actually thinking about it, I don't think it's the blackboys that bother me but when it's wet I don't like running there and both Malmalling and Nganga were wet when I last ran there so it's my last memory of both venues. I mean, I enjoy running at Spice Brook, Warranine and Jumbuck Hill but I didn't like the long champs at Spice Brook in 2014 or Jumbuck the first time we used it or the relays at Warranine due to the weather! Usually when it's raining, I can expect to add 30-50% to my time.

I probably just picked this weekend to go to Bussell Brook because it was the weekend of the MTB XCO event right near there.

Fletch, maybe you should come to the state champs this year and give me some competition now that Craig is running AS courses.

Precision! No sloppy technique works at Malmalling. I'm basically not a good enough orienteer to do a course there well. My techniques, such as they are, are not good enough. The bl**dy blackboys actually look like boulders in some cases. I can't remember which song it was but I was singing "Spot the Rock" to its tune all around Malmalling SW one time.

Discussing the merits of V2 vs V4 probably doesn't help the concentration whilst out there! It did provide a happy distraction whilst i went past....

Were you using the yarn to make a fake beard for your chin wag?
