I knew it was under 20, but not by that much. Thats 12.5 k short of 100 miles.
Final gut punch from Suffer Springs.
Thanks so much for organizing! That was great fun...after the suffering.
(Also got 18.6km)
It felt a little short although GPS watches usually under-measure distance compared to a well-calibrated bike computer on twisty, forested trails. Sulphur isn't that twisty but on our MTB single track at home, I often see a difference of 10+%. On a straight open road, the two measurements match.
On top of that, Ambit usually measures less than Garmin because of a different error correction algorithm. (The software has to decide whether the trail really had a crazy hairpin turn or whether to smooth out a suspected bad data point.)
My Ambit measured 8.7K for the initial 10K lap on the 50K race course and 19K for the 20K loops. The one measurement that was really off was elevation gain. It's supposed to be 580 m per 20K lap but I got 965 m for the entire 50K course - approximately 400 m per 20K lap. I usually trust the Ambit for elevation gain so that was a surprise.
I got 18.7, last year got 19, but it's the same loop every year right? Thanks again for organizing, hope the calf stopped cramping!
From the sidelines...
I got just under 19k last year.
Sooooo sorry to miss it in furnace heat and sauna humidity- not.
Calf cramps? A few spritzes of this and bye-bye charliehorse.
