this is how I became a primary cyclist last summer. the hamstring just kept recurring after various time periods of rest, 1 week, 2 week, 3 weeks, . . . then I just started cycling and got out of the habit of run training. till billy's XC season reawakened "The Calling" . . . :)
FOM tonight . . . exciting! great weather should make for fast times. the boys high school "development mile" race looks like a rematch of the Missouri State Class 4 1600 !
so the hamstring was always ok w cycling? the calf was good to go for biking from the get-go, so no need to wait 3 weeks for me, luckily. Since its a muscle connected to the tendons that flex the foot, the running footstrike shocks it, but the stable platform of the bike pedal has little or no adverse effect. Hoping to maintain peak fitness, 1 week of this stuff should be ok, may even be very beneficial since its allowing a lot of chronic running inflammations to die down. hopefully won't be much longer than that.

yes the hamstring was always good cycling. can't remember the last time I pulled a muscle cycling . . . just a good low impact cardio form of exercise. the risk is going from primary cycling-> running . . . primary running -> cycling is OK, only caution is pack riding skills, reaction time, injury due to crashes much more severe
trying to convince billy to do the Hub ride this Sat while his blisters heal
Oh, i didn't realized he biked, let alone fast enough to keep up w the hub ride. not that his aerobic engine isnt up to it, but are his handling skills equal to the engine?
he was the Missouri State 12-14 yr road race champion years ago! haha. plus did a bunch of Bubba junior races, and velodrome, and daily bike commute, and an internship at the Hub last summer, so the kid has some skills on the bike.
we will do the 7:45 intermediate ride to ease into pack riding. he better wear his contacts. if he can get up.
no kidding. had no idea - all very cool.
that said, this is a boy who runs into phone poles on group runs, so definitely an "at risk" cyclist. !
