Someone we know? Or did you just recognize the kayak paddles? :)

actually it was likely only racer as in singular. we were starting when a couple were finishing a 2 week'ish trip. she had a LRS tshirt and a BPMS buff. she saw my ARX shirt so the discussion started. she didn't know about RTH but raced STT this year. the guy didn't participate in the AR chat so not sure he raced.

I thought 'small world' but then thought nah more like only stupid people that like adventure would be out paddling in the heart of black fly season. GHOSLO had about 40 bites on his ankles.

anyway a fun trip and was great to knock off a 5K stretch of the paddle in just sub 40 minutes. perhaps wind assisted ;-)

Nice to get out with your Dad. The Original Bug Shirt folks also make Bug Gaiters. If I were possessed by the urge to canoe in June, they would be on my packing list. Apparently, ankles are delicious!

It really is a small world. At today's 5K race on pavement (the antithesis of AR), 'Bent started chatting with the man who finished ahead of him. He was with his wife and toddler. Suddenly, his wife said, "Are you Barb?" "Um, yes...?" Turns out she did Wilderness Traverse last year. Their captain had an injury but they continued unranked. She was on the last team to pass through 'Bent and Goose's remote CP after they got lost with a GPS tracker that wasn't turned on. They plan to come back to WT and give it a better shot. Cool!

how do you get +56m while paddling?

56m seems high for those portages but maybe it is about right. THat was the distance of paddling and portaging on the way out to the photo site. I only included the paddling time for training though it was likely over 4hours of paddling

but I carried all the uphills !

Yeah that's true. I took over only on the final downhill. I paddled all the uphills though.
