And what maps were you on?

Surebridge maybe? I have only heard of Surebridge and Sebago, and I passed Sebago Lake on the way. I parked next to a lake that at first I read as Lake Tiomila.

I'm not a Harriman expert, but I think the WOC93 relay map for a while had the fastest woods in North America.

Dutchman Flats is nice, but in my experience (one attempt to run there in August), it is covered with six feet of snow year-round.

Six feet? I've run there 4 times (August 2005, August 2007, August 2009, and September 2015) and I don't remember seeing any snow, let alone six feet!

Dutchman Flat is probably my favorite terrain, too. I've only orienteered east of the Mississippi a few times, but I think I prefer western terrain. I love central Oregon. I love Fishtrap and the scablands. I love Laramie. I love Anza Borrego. Buena Vista, CO. Way up on Whistler Mountain. A lot of stuff near Kamloops. Plus so much more stuff that isn't mapped yet!
