Gil: While on lunch break I was reading article regarding MapMyRun.com and WalkJogRun.net. Basically article said that other two sites offer some extra features - like search for other published routes and some other bells and whistles.

Usually I record my routes using Gmap-pedometer.com and seems like most runners I know and deal with use Gmap-pedometer.com

I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with other two web-sites.

chitownclark: We discussed the various pedometer tools last October.

The conclusion that I took away from the discussion was that altho most runners did use the Gmap tool, the USATF site was the most interesting because of the large database of recommended runs. And those recommended runs are ranked by other runners as Gold, Silver or Bronze. So you can search for only the best runs in your area. For instance, the database contains over 1600 logged runs inside the city of Chicago alone, but only 20 or so of them receive top ranking.

Since last October's discussion, I've found another site that logs good Local Hikes. I think this site is interesting because it is limited just to hiking in natural areas. But unfortunately the maps these hikes are recorded upon are not Google Maps, but rather old topos.

Another new tool that a friend with a GPS told me about, was the MB site. MB for motion-based recording. This site does everything the USATF site does...but is principally for those packing a GPS, and other read-out devices such as barometric altimeter, HRM, etc.

I think this site is too geeky, even for orienteers. But one of these days I may buy a GPS...and play around with this stuff into my dotage: Those who can, run; those who can't...sit in an armchair and analyze their every heartbeat.

Acampbell: I use MapMyRun.com Mostly because i find it is easiest one to use, Although i have used gmap-pedometer.com as well.

I think gmap-pedometer.com might actually be better and i'm going to switch back to it. As MapMyRun.com is almost exactly like attackpoint except for runners and bikers. You put in your route and then you can save it and log a training just like on here. Although you can also put like water stops and rest stops on your route for others to see what you really did. The one nice thing is you can find routes near you that other runners run, and we can't do that on here.

so if you just want to find your mileage i think gmap-pedometer is better, but if you want to compare your routes to others MapMyRun is good for that.
