Hi All,
Looking for someone to run 6th leg at Jukola. If any one is there and is looking to run a leg after venla or needs a team let me know.
Erin
I'll be there but not running. Possibly available for coaching duties if you need help.
What team are you entered as, couldn't find you in the start list... I suppose this would be the juniors?
Are there any other North American teams at Jukola this year besides CSU, the US Juniors, and Orienteering Ottawa?
The Yukon is also putting in a team.
Found these teams (Jukola only, no Venla teams):
230 CSU
380 Ottawa OC
384 Yukon
1701 OUSA
Live video with GPS and results well worth watching. I´ve followed it the last three years from home but will be at the competition site this year.
Yukon Team (not running order): Forest Pearson, Ross Burnett, Pia Blake, Leif Blake, Jennifer MacKiegan, Caelan McLean, Svante Larsson (Brent had to withdraw).
About the question though, dies anyone want to run the 6th leg on the team, it would be much appreciated! :D
If you don't find anyone here, you can also try Jukola's
runner bank.
Latest news: ... In about half of the legs the track runs through the competition centre ...
Is there a listing of teams with team members' names?
See the "with running orders" links
here.
Any bets on the LaBaguette vs Kenny first leg? Kempster is very fast and happy about orienteering, but is she too happy?!? Will CSU and OUSA hold up against the training and athletic proficiency of Canada? Will Ottawa and Yukon be able to overcome the unbridled freedom of 'Murica? What will the order be after each leg? Can any of them finish in the top 200? So much suspense and drama!
The lack of response so far shows the great respect that AP users have for Ken, Mr AP himself. Having said that I'll take Kempster.
I like to consider myself the underdog for this one.
No shame in losing to Kempster!
Here are the North American teams. Team Ottawa looks strong. Who is Daniel Martinsson, who is running leg 5?
380 OTTAWA OC 1 CAN
1 Emily Kemp
2 Eric Kemp
3 Robbie Anderson
4 Jeff Teutsch
5 Daniel Martinsson
6 Robert Graham
7 Steffan Lloyd
230 Cambridge Sports Union 1 USA
1 Ken Walker Jr.
2 Matthias Mahr
3 Giacomo Barbone
4 Greg Walker
5 Ian Smith
6 Brendan Shields
7 Ross Smith
384 Yukon 1 CAN
1 Pia Blake
2 Leif Blake
3 Forest Pearson
4 Jennifer MacKeigen
5 Ross Burnett
6 Svante Larsson
7 Caelen McLean
Oh, and also:
1701 OUSA 1 USA
1 Erin Schirm
2 Colin Beverage
3 Thomas Laraia
4 Tromborg Asne
5 Doubson Julia
6 Michael Michael
7 Anton Salmenkyla
According to Ottawa OC's
blog.
"Daniel Martinsson: Daniel hails from the west coast of Sweden and is a good friend and club mate of Robbie’s. He’s heard his fair share of stories from Gatineau Park and is also a proud member of the Bring-back-Bucky movement. He’s just getting back to racing after a long knee injury, but we’re very happy to have an experienced Jukola runner with us in the team."
This
image seems oddly pertinent:
Who is Michael Michael on OUSA? I know it's not Michael, brother of Thomas, cause he's running with one of Eero's teams. Go Juniors!
Radio YLE is warning about strong storm in Southern and Eastern Finland on Saturday. Sorry, in Russian only

English-language info at
www.meteoalarm.eu. Looks like a windy system, with rainfall about but not in massive quantities (about 5mm according to the forecast I've seen).
Is anyone able to watch the coverage? I keep getting errors, having tried multiple browsers.
same here: This Event is not available in your location
Yes - same message here in Australia.
Why does this always happen when you purchase something from the IOF Live Center?
So it looks like we will miss the start of Venla.
This live coverage is a joke. If the IOF make us pay, is there any chance we get a professional to set it up properly?
There was a tip on twitter that this link might work
http://livestream.com/accounts/8712572/events/5571...
I got an email from Trax Meet saying they are looking into the issue.
twitter tip works for me too. Guess I'll have to get a twitter account to be in the know.
Looks like not all runners are being registered at the intermediate controls. Happened to Michael 2 years ago, and I was starting to get worried about Izzy being injured or something, until she popped up in the Finish Punch results. Looks like solid runs by Julia and Izzy. And not to forget Asne in 53rd after her leg of 1347 who have finished the first leg.
Emily Kemp! Looks like 4th fastest anchor leg in Venla and then she leads off Jukola in a few hours.
Way to go Emily. Exciting!
And, if anyone is wondering, she took her team from 79th to 29th!
Results of Venla are at
http://online.jukola.com/tulokset/en/j2016_ve/
There were 1358 teams starting. Julia finished with a very respectable place of 387, a time of 58:04, 14:00 off the leg winner. Izzy pulled them up to 304 with a time of 1:00:43, 29:28 off the winner. The third leg runner held on to 325th place, but their anchor fell to 599.
Great job Julia and Izzy!
Men's Jukola relay is just starting with 1,716 teams. Live stream with English commentators is available at
http://livestream.com/accounts/8712572/events/5609...
Anyone having trouble with the stream now (early in the second leg)?
yup!
great first leg by Kempster
stream is dead for now :(
Also note Brent Godman, a Canadian Swedish guy trying for the Canadian WOC team this year. He ran for Gotlands OF and finished 183rd. Emily was actually ahead of him at some point, but he had a good second half.
Excellent radio broadcast in Finnish at
http://yle.fi/radio/ylepuhe/suora/
Erik Kemp blows past Petter Thoresen!
Peter Thoresen missed exchange for at least 5 minutes :)
Ken had tough start for SCU
Looks like at first changeover:
233 Ottawa (Emily)
630 CSU
747 OUSA
Has anyone paid the 15 Euro and had the stream work well? Is it good enough to warrant the expense?
It was working for a while now it isn't.
Has anyone tried emailing the email address they provide? sales@traxmeet.com
Boris - who is a weak link on OK Linne 1? :)
Really? Still not getting either web tv or gps.
Barb - click on the bottom right corner that says "more on Lifestream" or something like that. Then you should get to it.
the number of people watching has dropped from 1800 to 260, not all get it for some reason :(
One can hear how squishy or wet the ground is.
at 2nd intermediate time on leg 2
185 Ottawa
... 1st non-Euro team (?)
... 11th from countries that don't have a cross in their flag
571 CSU
964 Yukon
1055 OUSA
Wow! Eric Kermp moves Ottawa OC up 34 places.
Canadian Ross just announced as the next guest in the commentator's booth?
Ross Burnett being interviewed right now.
And puts in a plug for NAOC 2018!
I noticed that pretzel slap, too.
International incident? Blame it on Trudeau.
@gordhun: Emily finished 233rd, after Eric it's 151st, so 82 places! Unfortunately, it looks like Robbie isn't doing as well.
Can't tempt a runner with food who still has to go out
You can give a man a pretzel but you can't make him eat
was is Ross screaming " go Rasmuss!!!"?
Robbie's not showing up at 8.2km, but way up in 155th at 10.2km!
Results at 10.2km
... And 149 at the next split (10.9km).
Ah OK, thanks, I was waiting for him to appear at 8.2 km.
Will Critchley seems to be running well on the long night for his team as well.
Vaajakosken Terä 3
@Nev-Monster: all legs are forked - info from the Jukola website
Robbie ends up gaining one place throughout the course of his entire his leg, from 151st to 150th. Jeff's out now for Ottawa.
Jeff up 10 places in 2 km. Fantastic!!!
Solid run by Giacomo, climbing SCU to 389
Little elbow action at the first tv control on the sixth leg!
I saw that. Any hockey player knows it's always the retaliation that will get the penalty.
Elbows by Scandis? Normally it is slashing and diving!
Ken is being interviewed!
Ken Walker being interviewed now. A mention of AttackPoint.
No pretzel for the North Americans today.
Getting exciting between the top three.
Anyone know what sort of training Stef Lloyd has been doing in Sweden? Similar fitness as when he was ski racing?
And as important, how big is his hair??
And also, does Ross have any chance of catching him from 37 minutes back??
well it is 33 now after 2km so at 2 min/km X 16.5 km it's gonna be close
CSU finished 188th in 2012. Ottawa has a chance to beat that!
The gap is down to ~9 mins after 11km. Ross is a beast!
So it is all wrapped up. Nice showings Ottawa and CSU (and perhaps the others but I did not see their names in a quick search of the results. What is the reason that the North American, Chinese and perhaps other non-European teams did not have flags next to their club names?)
Ottawa edges out CSU for NA Jukola Champs.
Just A note US Junior women Asne Tromborg finished 53 on leg 1 in venla just less than 2 min back of first finisher. Amanda johansson fished 155 for leg three on Orion 3 team.
Great job Ottawa! Such a solid O-club these days...keep it up!!
Some
photos, mainly of the NA gang.
Thanks for sharing those photos Ken! Those are awesome!
Yes, thanks for the pictures. Looks like lots of rain an mud. By the way, in the last picture, what are you using in your shoes as a drying aide? rice?
Ah the well-known soft tissue remedy. One should always take plenty.
