my commiserations... still I'm sure you learnt a lot, or maybe you managed to pass on some of your experience to others? ;-)

anything beyond just common sense?

I got one wrong :( I didn't know the organiser could pass responsibility to the planner for course safety. This led to a short discussion about the difference between responsibility and accountability, and whether the organiser could also transfer the latter, but nobody knew the answers.

Usual splitting hairs stuff by the sound of it!

Maybe not.

This training bollox came in because BOF are scared of getting sued. If it happened, the interpretation of responsibility/accountability determines who ends up in court.
