Me too. Have been in races where we weren't sure whether to pull off or keep going. What was the final straw for you guys this time?

Erl and I thought we could sneak by the storm (we were paddling south and the storm was moving east). Biz made the call to take out, because he promised Molly that he wouldn't do anything stupid. And it was the right call at the right time - only minutes later the skies open and dumped 4" of rain, and lots of lighting!!

yeah not a lot of chat time Phil! will have to catch up at another event!

I remember Gary Thompson and I getting in a bit of a tiff at US Rogaining champs because he wanted to cut through the woods to the hash house as light was fading and I insisted we run the road around. I'm fairly sure (and he was absolutely certain) that we could have made it out the other side before night, but Yaya had just been born, so I was pretty sensitive to undue risk.

Ironically, shortly after collecting our lights, we made a 30-minute error which made the whole debate pretty irrelevant.
