The scary thing is that logic and consistency don't seem to matter to them. So there's no reasoning with them. Not sure what you can do, really!
As a Canadian, I can only urge all the Dems (and even non-Trump Republicans) I meet to get out and vote, and to actively encourage like-minded people. The youth had better take their lesson from Britain. Fortunately, every other American we chatted with in Italy was anti-Trump.
I abandoned my Canadian politeness when these ladies admitted that Trump's personal life is against their beliefs but it's irrelevant to the job. (A position I've taken before for other politicians, depending on their particular flaw.) I told them I agreed that his personal life was irrelevant as long as the government wasn't going to be involved in its citizens' personal lives, such as abortion, whom they're allowed to marry, which bathrooms they can use, etc. The ladies looked at me with speechless horror. It's a good thing I didn't mention guns or they might have shot me!
P.S. I'm sure they wouldn't take political advice from a citizen of a country whose Prime Minister did this yesterday. Not to mention that he marched for awhile beside Toronto's Mayor and Ontario's (lesbian) Premier.
It's not a Canadian thing. Most Trumpeters won't take advice from anyone. They like the Donald simply because he says what they already "think".
I'm sure you're right but it was intriguing that they at least pretended to disagree with him on some points, perhaps because they were surrounded in the restaurant by Australians, Canadians and Europeans. Their argument was based entirely on their view that Hillary is such an evil liar that it doesn't matter who her opponent is. They even commented that she knew a lot more about running a government than Trump did and they agreed that he has lied too. But just as I'm inflexible in my "anybody but Trump" view, they had an "anybody but Hillary" view. To be fair, they are actual American voters, which I am not!
Yes, they are both very polarizing - I don't really understand the hatred for Hillary, but there are a LOT of people who just despise her. That's kind of the whole problem with our current government in a nutshell. Most people have moved to one extreme or the other, with little middle ground.
Maybe we could convince Canada to annex at least the Northeastern US - then we could just share your government without having to move.
We'd be happy to have you! :)
Nice to see - I'm sure that's another reason they hate her. ;)
