Yeah that might have been better for running. I got them to run while memorising two legs. Turns out instead of running hard, they just jogged. So intervals didn't happened.

Not sure if this was what you meant, but we did something similar recently organised by TrishTash - pairs activity running a sprint course with one map, where you run the leg by memory while your partner follows memorising the next one. When you reach the control your partner gives you the map and runs the next leg while you follow...etc.
Surprisingly good fun, and quite hard to keep up with the lead person while trying to memorise the next leg.
I could try something like that. Sounds like fun
Pro tip: try to make sure the long legs aren't all run by the same person. I think I copped 3x400m legs in a row while my partner got the 50m turnaround legs in between. :)
