Did you ever see them 'the first time around'? It must be interesting to see them +Flacco in a more mature state - still as stinging I would assume

No, I never did; was introduced to DAAS towards the tail end of their trajectory. (And in fact Julie & Geoff found themselves to be among the youngest members of the audience last night.) With no Richard, and Tim seriously wheelchair-bound, and Flacco as the non-verbal guitarist (although he was permitted a scathing monologue as the "warm-up act") it was somehow a little pathetic - and they milked the pathos for all it was worth!

Yeah, I'd go with that summary - I saw them last year, and while Tim wasn't entirely constrained to his chair (he stood up once, from memory), there was a lot of milking of the nostalgia angle. It was still highly entertaining, but you can't help but wonder if they were a product of the 80s and should have left it there. :)

Their political commentary isn't as good as, say, Tim Minchin's.

Blair would have appreciated what Paul said about Andrew Bolt, although it was fairly puerile. I'd forgotten the guys were quite so...scatological.

Did they sing I Fuck Dogs? :)

Nope. Almost none of the old stuff, although some post-election takes on their already-bastardised versions of Glibert & Sullivan.

I saw a bit of the "launch" and it felt very forced. Sad really. There was obvious unhappiness when Richard Fidler didn't take up the offer (Iceland doco...Iceland itself vs dragging up or trying to reignite a long lost chemistry) to join them. He seems to have been able to make a very successful transition to a different form of entertainment - or just plain sold out to the conservative side.

As someone who enjoys his interviews I think Richard Fidler spends his time well. :)

Paul's views on Andrew Bolt might be influenced by his excellent access to the results of high-quality mainstream climate science (his partner, Melissa, is the communications officer for the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society).

But actually AB is nasty to/about so many different subjects...Geoff & I sometimes try to guess what his 'articles' will be about from their headlines, but we are disinclined to read any further.

I can't even bear to read his articles. It's not good for the reader.
