It was such a fun day. Really seems to depend on the kid, but as you know most kids will do whatever their parents do within reason. 4 seems to be the time when both of my boys were physically capable to do the hike without any help, although I should have picked a better day for it (it was pretty cold b/c the wind was nearing 30mph). Xavier (now 8) could go last year and hike 7-8 miles pretty well. Didn't complain and was excited. But he's definitely developed a lot over the winter, and aside from my running friends, he'll out-hike anyone I know. He basically did Sherman solo, and could have done it much faster if he didn't have to wait for me and the little man (although even Oliver got up and down faster than the 10 other people that started right before us, that group hadn't even got above the saddle at 13,400' when my little man was coming down). Xavier and I are gonna try to knock out G&T, Decalibron, and Quandary for sure before summer is up.
