Looks like someone is planning to return to Italy?... :)
'Bent and I spent several months trying to learn basic Italian before we went. We were both able to read it pretty well but 'Bent was the king of conversation. Now we're thinking we will need to return to justify all our work! (And to eat more pasta and seafood.)
Such a great place to return to! I didn't realize you had both become proficient at Italian. Bravo! (brava?)
"Proficient" would be an overstatement! 'Bent did have one really impressive phone call in Italian where he made a restaurant reservation but they needed us to come an hour later than we were asking, then the phone got cut off and he had to call back and apologize and do it all again. He gets full points for pulling that off. There was still a niggling doubt when we arrived at this empty place way out in the country, but they were indeed expecting us.
It looked like such a great trip, it's no wonder that you want to go back!
I also managed most of the translation and ordering at that restaurant in Italian, including my non-carnivore status etc. Well, me and my Google Translate app.
My Italiano tended to evaporate later in the trip in highly touristed areas, but I certainly amused the locals with my attempts.
Grazie molte, Coffee Break Italian podcasts, and my Italian dental assistants.
PS- Bravi for plural I think.
