since it looks like I'll be moving back East soon
Eric mentioned that to Nadim a while back (no deets). To be near your mom & Don?
We'll be thrilled to see you at QOC events again.
For long-time followers of my log, you know that my BFF back East is Meg. I've known her for 25 years, used to work together at MCI, call each other Lucy and Ethel...always arguing who's Ethel. Well, she is now the CMO of Conservation International, and offered me a job as Sr. Director of Communications, out of Crystal City, VA. This came at the most opportune time because the company I work for now is not doing well...many folks getting laid off or jumping ship.
The application/interview process has gone on for 2 months, and this past Friday, it appears I passed the last hurdle...interviewing with Meg's boss. He liked me. :-) So, as long as my references check out and I pass the background check, it looks like I'm in.
I'll keep my house in Denver and just rent it out. And then rent a townhouse in Reston. This won't be forever, but long enough to be close to Mom as she gets older. And that's about as much as I can say about that without crying.
So, in the next two months, I have to buy a condo in Ft. Collins to put Graham in as he starts at CSU; clean out my house and hire a mover to bring me back East; hire a property management firm here to find renters; find a place in Reston to live in. And then be ready for the US Champs and North Americans. No pressure. No stress.
Why Reston instead of closer to Crystal City? Just familiarity? Reston is nice, esp near the town center, and you'll have a reverse commute.
The job opportunity sounds good.
And, no stress! You are a rock star of organization. I know you'll do great.
Reston = closer to West Virginia?
I chose Reston for a number of reasons: familiarity since that's where I grew up; closer to Mom and Don; multiple commuter options [Metro (when operational) and busses]; near friends and my sister; nice trail system and good triathlon training opportunities. Plus, I looked at Crystal City and all I found were soul-less corporate apartments. I looked at Arlington, and it was too expensive. So, I'll start in Reston and see where I actually end up renting.
I admire your spirit of adventure and your ability to get things done! And it will be nice to see you perhaps a bit more often when you are back on the east coast.
Good call. Crystal City feels the same way to me when I run through it, very glad we decided to be closer to Jon's work than to mine. Metro actually seems to be getting its act together - surprisingly, during the three weeks they worked on my end of the line (blue), the shuttle bus they provided was actually faster than taking the train. And now all is back to normal on my end.
I love how so many people find their way to QOC, whether as their home club or just passing through. Lots of good people here - hope we'll see you before we head out!
Back a while (1973-75) QOC was the first O' club for Gail and me. Still have lots of good memories from then.
@campbellv - Actually, it's more like I'm coming back to QOC. I was a member from 1976 - 2012, when I switched to RMOC. I was President twice, the first time I think when I was 18. Vice-President a few times. It will be nice to see how the club has changed. I don't think I'll know too many folks, but I hope to see you and Jon before you leave.
There are still a ton of people you'll know. Just a bunch more too!
Re-find your way to QOC, then! Isn't that the best? A different sort of homecoming, but it always feels good to land back with a club you know well. I'm glad to have added QOC to our list of "home" clubs.
Sounds like a good deal all around! Wishing you success in finishing up details of moving/renting your place out.
