I would still do the interview for the preferred job and if successful get out of the signed contract during the probation period.

Viel Glück, here - there - everywhere :-)

I agree with Dolph.

And if you get the other job and announce you will get out of the signed contract during probation, the guys from the first Job would usually agree to just cancel the contract. If in doubt check with Thomas H.

Thanks for the advice guys :) I'll do the interview for the experience and to find if there could be some other chance in the future, but don't feel like getting out of the first job because they really went out of their way to create a position which suited me, and I'm also excited about this job!
The interview job also isn't the most practical, I would have to move to Germany a day after I return from WOC.
Anyway, I'll still be in Switzerland next year!

I'm happy to take up either option for you ;)

Yes, come to Europe! Or maybe we can swap when I move back to Australia ;)

Haha, deal :) Want to work for in climate change policy? - job swap sounds good :)

And because it's state government, you get to work in climate change policy for a government which actually believes in doing something about it. (That said, the early signs out of the new federal minister are more positive than I had expected).
