You know I was wondering why my split from 14-15 was comparatively bad when put against everyone else's because it was totally error free but looking at GPS traces, a heap of the field cut through the bush there. That's one big disadvantage we have over the Europeans is that it's so unnatural for us to take short cuts through the bush! Granted I did take two yesterday but it's something I have to really focus my attention on to consider doing.

Several guys also cut through from 6-7.

Why do we have different rules in OZ MTBO to Europe?

Cutting through must make a big difference when there are windy single track options that go close to major tracks as seems to happen in WA often.

We need to conserve the forest in Australia.

But are the rules different? Are we technically allowed to ride through white?
Jul 29, 2016 12:29 AM #
Not under australian rules 15.4. Length of courses will be given as following the shortest sensible route choice from the start via the controls to the finish following permissible tracks/roads or open areas mapped as item 401 'Open Land'.
Riding off the track or trail (except across open areas mapped as item 401 ‘Open Land’) is disallowed. Any variation to this, as agreed with the event controller, must
be specifically advised by the event organiser. Planners should design courses so as to minimise any benefit gained from infringement of this rule. The penalty for
breaking this rule is disqualification from the event.

Well, unless some MP's are reinstated, looks like you undersold yourself on top 40 being unattainable. 38th on my results list... and a pretty clean ride for the time I was tracking your dot (unfortunately only about the last third of your ride).

Yep 38th, my best ranked position in a WC race by 15 places! Had to stop at several junctions in the complex areas just to check which way I wanted to go next and probably 2-3 routes where I inadvertently took the wrong turn but kept going and came at it from another direction. Very happy with my ride today. It was punishing though.

Lucy tore her sidewall unfortunately at CP 8 so didn't finish. Fergus wasn't completely happy with his ride after a few errors.

Good work, worth all the training?

There were a lot of times out there I thought 'Shouldn't I be going faster?' but it was such a struggle, even on tiny inclines!

Well all the elite teams get GPSes tomorrow so you can follow us again. Fergus has first leg, I'm second and Lucy third. Apparently the last section is through a park and has been described as 'fun'! Hopefully no MPs from our eager juniors (or me).

11am start (6pm WST & 8pm EST).

Go to sleep! you will need it!

It's not even 10pm! (yet) The sun only just went down.
