I'm so glad you're doing it! I wanted to, but it's the day after we get home; no time to practice biking.
You can wing the bike! Practice is over rated!
It is tempting … knowing you're doing it may convince me to try. But I don't even own a mtn bike, and not much time to rent one.
I won't say for sure I won't do it!
I can rent one for you and bring it. Hmmm, but then I'll have competition. ;-)
I've heard the short version is relatively tame, but also that the heat makes racers question why they come back to do this one...that was enough for Jon and Anna to decide to do something else instead!
Tame is what I am hoping. And, I actually deal with heat pretty well...sweat like crazy but don't overheat. So, the heat doesn't bother me, though an 11 am start time is a bit of a bother.
If it were closer, I'd totally do it. This sounds completely up my alley.
It sounds fun... how does one get into things like this without owning fancy bikes and canoes/kayaks?
They provide the canoes/kayaks along with the PFD and paddles at many events. MTB rentals can be had as well, though a Springfield, VA option for $75 per day means that it would cost more to rent than to race. Probably could get a cheap beater bike online instead.
Or if you ask around, you might well be able to borrow stuff.
Thanks. I am probably too early in my recovery period to sign up for a race like this, but Alli has expressed interest, and so we'll surely try one in the near future.
Missed the last fee deadline and I can't justify $135 entry fee plus (probably) renting a bike ... Could do the family friendly course I suppose but what fun would that be? So I'm skipping it this year. Have a great race and have fun!
Hope it goes well and you have fun!
