Only thing worse than FDF's!!
Looks like 'Bent is going to live. We got the Benadryl ready and watched the swelling grow and subside over 2 hours. Phew!
Yikes - I've had two nests on my property over the years and got stung a lot taking them out. Buggers!
Thank goodness you saved the 'Bent and the 'bent!
If anyone's in Albion, I'd avoid the Get Groen singletrack for a while. The nest is in the mess of blown down trees near the end.
I'll stop by on my commute home and throw lit matches in there until they go away.
... actually I think that's already been tried in Palgrave a few years back, with poor results :-()
We had a nest in our backyard last year, which I discovered with an open can of canoe varnish in the hand that got stung (with predictable results- a varnish bath for me) and the simplest way to get rid of them was to put a clear plastic container over the opening. They may be nasty but they're dumb- they all accumulated under the plastic trying to get out and that was that- non toxic.
Wow never thought of ground wasps good thing I think Dee and I did not hot that trail yesterday!!!
