The Ernest Giles Rd had all these warning signs about its unsealed condition (including telling tourists to go back & take the bitumen) and dad & I kept expecting it to get bad but in fact it never did...
Despite my best efforts driving along it a couple of months ago when it had some very wet patches. Glad I didn't chop it up too much (or it's been graded since).
Quite recently I think. As for fuel prices: $1.73 at Uluru, $1.78 at Curtin Springs, $2.03 at Kings Canyon where you have a fairly captive audience, and $2:30 at Ross River where you'd be a bloody fool not to have filled up in Alice!
For me: $2.20 at Cameron Corner, $1.67 at Windorah, $1.60 at Innamincka. Only in the upper $1.20s at Quilpie and Longreach which suggests that there's a certain amount of monopoly-exploitation at Windorah. Incidentally, at each of Tibooburra, Thargomindah and Quilpie, one of the two fuel outlets in town was out of action - a reminder that in the outback, filling up at every opportunity is a good idea.
91c in Adelaide at the minute, which is super-weird.
Really only $1:60 at Innamincka? Teague's charges more than that in Hawker!
I was surprised too. I'm guessing their transport costs are lower than would be expected for such an isolated location because they can piggyback off loads going to Moomba.
Diesel $1.90 at Warbuton a couple of weeks back - but 'cheap' at The other two fill-ups at Laverton & Yulara.
