Looks like a fun place to run! Apparently there are about 150 invasive bison on this island. What motivated choosing this as the conference location?
Joking. =) A friend of mine organized the conference, she mentioned just finding the location online, wanting somewhere nearby from Pasadena (home of Carnegie Observatories). It's definitely an interesting island. It *must* be supplied with water from elsewhere to support the human population it does... But yeah, beautiful!
Fascinating! I was about to complain about the *glaring* lack of log commentary, but I see you're rectifying that. California is a bizarre state - glorious and sublime, but also shaking, on fire, and dying of thirst.
Oh, I met Mike Poulsen - a CROC member - at the Canadian Champs this past weekend. He was enthusiastic and friendly, and took an amusing picture of a bear sculpture at the University of Calgary campus.
Apparently this island shakes less than mainland, but is quite prone to fire. And woo, reverse-2nd-law hi to Mike!
