Which Winsplits? I've looked up one of them - the /en version - that has some Aussie results but not those.

Never mind, they're all listed under the 13th.

I'd be interested to know how Kirk Jackson got a 2:27 on the first split to #1 in the middle distance. My actual time was ~1 minute (according to the GPS, 3:01 on the splits) but we all got started two minutes late and yet he's got a 2:27. This is what happens when there's no start clock.

Chris' 1:01 on 9-10 had to be illegal.

Our long distance splits seem to be missing 2/3 of the controls, shame.

Actually not only Kirk but there are two women on W21 that have times well under 3 minutes for that first leg on the middle so they've buggered up several starts - in comparison Carolyn has 3:13. Obviously not learned from last year when there were similar start issues.

I much prefer a punch start. NSW has officially adopted free start times for state foot o events. Just need to start in the time window and be back by course closure. Has been working well. For MTBO should only need to worry about start times and late starters for elites when it's a world ranking event.

I've been tossing up whether to have automated or punch starts for the champs. My issue with punch starts is if someone is late they're typically not penalised but with automatic starts, there's too much that can go wrong as Qld has now shown in successive years. I had to give the sprint starter a hurry along notice on Saturday when he got distracted by someone talking to him and almost forgot to start the group in front of me and with no start clock, waiting groups don't know when they're meant to go.

An alternative would be to load start times into the system and still have punch starts but if someone starts late, don't allow use of the start brick. That would just end in confusion though.

I will get back to this with more detail but I am very busy.
My first thought on reading this post was "What a dinosaur" given the blind abhorrence of new technology.
Then the phrase "My issue is.." struck me - since there clearly was no issue whatever given the organiser can just look at the start list.
So put those two together and I couldn't help remembering Ann Elks theory on the brontosaurus

Correct splits have now been uploaded for M21 in the long event and it's a telling tale that Chris won 16 of 25 splits whereas I've picked up just the three split wins and narrowly edged him out overall. If only I could ride fast...
