Agree with your comments about going to #8 - short leg but must have drifted. Didn't seem right at all.
Stuffed #3 badly - followed some track somewhere in the general direction but ended up heading to major track (not referrring to the plastic object I usually carry) and very cleverly got to #4 - so back to #3 and return. Should get a reasonable split for that leg.
Route S of w/c to #5 was really good and very pleasant running on tiny track in paperbark area. Thought you MTBO people would like/use that area though pretty tight for turning so speed might be down (unless you are GB).
I headed off from 7 without using compass and expecting to see the short bit of track. I think there was some new bike track there which was curvy and put me off a little.
I've ridden the track on N of creek a couple and so just headed to that because I knew it and didn't have to think. S now looks shorter and hence probably quicker.
A number of narrow, winding tracks in that area that we've used for MTBO events.
