Am I a bad Canadian for having switched over to Radio Canada on Saturday evening in order to watch track and field in French? (encouragingly, I had no trouble following the commentary without subtitles - it's hard to be certain watching subtitled French films whether one would really be following along without them or not - though describing running races doesn't exactly require the full resources of the language) Somehow, I managed through the late 80s and most of the 90s until I moved to DC to be no more than peripherally aware of the Hip. I'm pretty much convinced that I never even heard Bobcaygeon before this past weekend because it's unspeakably great and I'd surely remember past exposure.
